Anthony

This line begins with Jacob Anthony, probably an immigrant, who settled in Orange County, North Carolina about 1775.   Several of his children migrated to Bedford County, Tennessee in the early 1800s.  A descendant, Dr. Edward Young Anthony, eventually settled in Morris County, Texas where he married Lou Ella Witt - they were my father's grandparents.

The mystery of Edward Young Anthony’s background is what first led me into genealogy. My father, the only child of E. Y. Anthony’s only child, had been raised in his grandfather’s home. Although he never said so outright, it seemed pretty clear to me that his grandfather's influence was greater than his father's. In the late 1960s, more than twenty years after both men had died, my father began an attempt to trace his grandfather’s origins; I joined the hunt in 1972. Unfortunately, much of what is in these pages was discovered after my father’s death in 1986.
